Dell Pro 7 Compact Keyboard (KB746) Review: Supercapacitor Power and Enterprise Security for $60

The KB746 may be worth considering if you need a quiet wireless keyboard for office work and value an encrypted connection and fast charging. In the reviewer's email and long-document use, it was comfortable and near-silent; the main trade-offs are no backlighting and Windows-only customization software.

Best suited for
IT buyers outfitting quiet, security-minded workspaces, or individual buyers seeking a compact wireless keyboard for email and long-form writing, as described in the review.

Highlights

• The Secure Link receiver uses 128-bit AES encryption, a feature the review identifies as relevant to security-conscious workplaces.
• A supercapacitor charges quickly over the included USB-C-to-USB-C cable; Dell rates a full charge at roughly three months of ordinary use.
• The reviewer found the keyboard near-silent and comfortable during email and long-document drafting, which may suit shared workspaces.
• The review cites a three-year warranty, compared with one-year warranties it says are common among budget keyboards.

Consider before buying

• The keyboard has no backlighting; the reviewer found this limiting when working with overhead lights down.
• Dell Display and Peripheral Manager runs only on Windows, so Mac, iPad, and Chromebook users lose access to key customization.
• The shallow scissor-switch feel may not suit buyers who want mechanical-keyboard travel and snap.
