Why this deal may be worth it
From the source report
Worth considering if you need to read or burn CDs and DVDs alongside card-reading and M.2 NVMe access in one device. The article reports a $44.99 price, but says the saving is small and describes $40 as the lowest price its author has seen, so the reported offer is not established as the product's best price.
Best suited for Collectors, archivists, and laptop owners who want a disc drive that also reads SD and microSD cards and supports an M.2 NVMe drive.
What stands out
Reads and burns CDs and DVDs, which the article says can support ripping discs or making backup discs.
Includes an M.2 NVMe slot and SD and microSD readers, combining storage access with the optical drive.
The article reports compatibility with Windows, macOS, and Linux.
About the price
The source reports $44.99 against a $49.99 list price, a stated $5 difference. That list price is not evidence of a typical selling price; the article also says its author has seen the drive at $40, but supplies no dates or comparable price-history observations. The source notes that cheaper plain external DVD drives are available, so the added card readers and M.2 slot are central to whether the reported price suits your needs.
Before you buy
The article says all ports run at USB 2.0 speeds and advises against it for buyers who need fast file transfers.
Blu-ray support is not listed; the article says to skip it if you need Blu-ray.
80mm discs are read-only, according to the article.
The article says plain external drives cost less, so the added ports and M.2 slot may not be useful if you only want to play discs.
